In a jaw-dropping revelation, a Ghanaian undertaker identified as Nii has opened up about one of the most unsettling experiences of his career, spending the night in a room with a deceased body.
In an exclusive interview on Razak Ghana TV, Nii recounted the harrowing incident, which he says still haunts him to this day.
According to him, he had been hired to dress the remains of a deceased individual in a town far from his home.
Upon arriving at the location, Nii was taken aback when the family elder, also known as the Abusuapanin, informed him that while payment had been made for his services, no arrangements had been made for his accommodation.
Being new to the area and unfamiliar with anyone around, Nii explained that he had no choice but to stay in the same room where the corpse was laid.
“That night was one of the longest of my life,” he recalled. “I didn’t close my eyes. Every sound, every creak made my heart pound.
It’s something I will never forget, and honestly, I regret going through that experience.”
He described the moment in vivid detail, admitting that while it was part of his professional journey, it tested the limits of his courage and composure.
The story has since gone viral, sparking a wide range of reactions from viewers online, some expressing shock, others showing sympathy for what he endured.
Despite the discomfort and fear he felt that night, Nii says it taught him an important lesson about setting clear terms before taking on a job, especially in unfamiliar environments.
His experience sheds light on the lesser-known challenges faced by mortuary professionals and undertakers in Ghana and beyond.
