President John Dramani Mahama has delivered a stern message to Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), warning them to steer clear of corrupt practices as his administration intensifies efforts to promote transparency and accountability.
Addressing participants at an ongoing orientation programme in Accra, President Mahama made it clear that the performance and conduct of the MMDCEs would be closely monitored by the Auditor-General and other anti-corruption institutions.
“You hold a critical position in the success of this government. Your actions on the ground reflect on us all. Let me be blunt—if you engage in corruption, you will face the full force of the law. I will not protect anyone under investigation,” the President cautioned.
He highlighted that 80 percent of the District Assembly Common Fund has been allocated directly to the MMDCEs and urged them to manage these resources responsibly to meet the developmental needs of their communities.
“Every cedi must count,” Mahama emphasized. “These funds are meant to transform lives at the local level, not to enrich individuals. You are accountable to the people and to the nation.”
The President also reminded the appointees of their constitutional duty to declare their assets, setting a firm deadline of July 15, 2025. He warned that failure to comply would attract serious consequences.
“This is not just a formality—it’s a test of your commitment to integrity. Declare your assets by the deadline or face disciplinary action,” he stressed.
The orientation programme aims to equip the newly appointed MMDCEs with the necessary tools, knowledge, and ethical framework to carry out their roles effectively in alignment with the government’s development goals.
President Mahama concluded by urging the appointees to lead by example, act with integrity, and always put the public interest first.
