Professor Angela Ofori-Atta, the wife of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, has reassured Ghanaians that her husband is fully prepared to cooperate with investigations into alleged financial misconduct during his time in office.
In an exclusive interview with Joy News on Monday, Prof Ofori-Atta made it clear that her husband is not avoiding accountability, despite currently recovering from prostate cancer surgery outside the country.
“He’s ready to answer any questions. If it has to be done through his lawyers or over a video call, that can be arranged. He has no intention of interfering with or delaying the investigation,” she stressed.
Her comments come amid increasing public scrutiny surrounding Mr. Ofori-Atta, who served as Ghana’s Finance Minister from 2017 to 2024.
Allegations involving financial impropriety, misuse of office, and offshore transactions have led to an active probe by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP). An Interpol red notice has also been linked to the case, heightening public interest.
Prof Ofori-Atta confirmed that her husband recently underwent successful surgery for prostate cancer and remains under strict medical observation, which makes immediate travel to Ghana medically inadvisable.
“His doctors have advised against any physical travel for now. But that doesn’t mean he is avoiding responsibility. Ghana is his home—he is not running from anything,” she stated.
While critics have raised concerns over the timing of his medical condition, the family insists that Mr. Ofori-Atta remains committed to due process and has nothing to hide.
“He’s willing to engage the Special Prosecutor’s office in any way that his current health allows. If it takes a virtual session to move forward, he’s ready,” she added.
As the investigation unfolds, the former minister’s camp continues to express its willingness to support a fair and transparent legal process while navigating health challenges.
