After weeks of growing public pressure on social media, Ghana’s Minister of Communication, Digitalisation, and Innovation, Hon. Samuel Nartey George, has officially announced a major increase in mobile data value across all major telecom networks in the country.
The new data rates are set to take effect from July 1, 2025.
Addressing the media on Tuesday, June 10, Hon. Sam George disclosed that following intense consultations with the CEOs of MTN, Telecel, and AT, an agreement has been reached to boost data value by 10% to 15%, depending on the network.
“I’m pleased to inform Ghanaians that starting July 1, all mobile networks will increase their data bundle values by at least 10%.
This is the result of strategic engagement with telecom executives to ensure fairer pricing for the average Ghanaian,” the Minister stated.
Key Adjustments to Data Bundles:
AT Ghana: Their GH¢400 bundle will increase from 195GB to 236 GB.
Telecel Ghana: All data packages will receive a 10% boost, with the GH¢400 bundle now giving customers 250GB, up from 90 GB.
MTN Ghana: MTN will implement a 15% increase, with the reinstatement of the popular GH¢399 bundle now delivering 214GB, after previously being reduced to GH¢350 for 92.88 GB.
Hon. Sam George also warned that any network provider that fails to comply with the new directive would face regulatory sanctions.
This decision comes after weeks of public criticism led by digital creators and influencers like Kwadwo Sheldon and Tech In Twi, who decried the shrinking value of mobile data despite rising costs.
The announcement has since been celebrated online as a victory for everyday data users, particularly students, entrepreneurs, and content creators.
With implementation just around the corner, many Ghanaians are hopeful that this development signals a new era of transparency and affordability in the digital space.
