A shocking and heartbreaking incident has rocked the community of Frimpongkrom in the Dormaa West District of the Bono Region, where a Fulani herdsman, identified as Mahmud, allegedly murdered his four-month-old pregnant wife, Barikisu, in cold blood.

The tragic event unfolded on the evening of Monday, June 16, 2025.
According to information gathered from residents, Barikisu had long endured domestic abuse in her marriage. In the days leading up to the incident, she reportedly opened up to their landlord and his wife, revealing her decision to leave her husband and return to her hometown in Northern Ghana due to the ongoing violence.

However, Mahmud is said to have pleaded with her to stay, promising to change his ways—a promise that was tragically broken.
Eyewitnesses say the couple appeared to be having dinner peacefully when Mahmud suddenly rose, launched an unprovoked attack, and fatally assaulted his pregnant wife. The brutal act stunned neighbours and left the entire community in grief.
After committing the crime, Mahmud reportedly fled the scene and is believed to have escaped across the border into Ivory Coast. His whereabouts remain unknown.

Health workers at a nearby facility attempted an emergency procedure in a desperate effort to save the unborn baby, but sadly, both mother and child were pronounced dead shortly after.
Barikisu has since been laid to rest.
Meanwhile, a coordinated manhunt involving Ghanaian and Ivorian security agencies is underway to capture Mahmud and bring him to justice.

Residents of Frimpongkrom and surrounding communities are calling for swift action to ensure the suspect is found and held accountable for the senseless act that has left many in shock and mourning.
