Ghanaian social media influencer Hayford Boateng, widely known as GH Kobby, has been arrested in connection with the tragic shooting of his girlfriend, Philipa Yaa Baby, also known online as Shuga.
The heartbreaking incident occurred on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, in Seker, a suburb of Yeji in the Bono East Region. GH Kobby was reportedly in the company of two friends—Kojo Emmanuel and Michael Kabutey—when the unfortunate event unfolded.
According to multiple eyewitness accounts and media reports, the group had traveled to Yeji after attending the funeral rites of the late Mamponghene, Daasebre Osei Bonsu II. While in the area, they visited a residence where they were seen eating and drinking in what appeared to be a relaxed setting.
However, the calm atmosphere quickly turned tragic. GH Kobby allegedly retrieved a firearm from his car—reportedly intending to fire warning shots into the air. In a horrifying twist, he accidentally discharged the weapon, hitting Philipa in the left arm.
She was rushed to St. Martin’s Hospital in Yeji, but sadly, she succumbed to her injuries shortly after arrival.
An eyewitness, believed to be a local Assemblyman, recounted that Kobby was seen loading the weapon in front of others. A bystander reportedly questioned his decision to handle a gun in a peaceful gathering, but moments later, a loud gunshot was heard, leaving everyone in shock.
Police officers later retrieved an assault rifle from GH Kobby’s car as part of their ongoing investigation. GH Kobby and his two companions are currently in police custody while authorities work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
The body of the late Philipa Yaa Baby has been deposited at the morgue, leaving friends, family, and fans devastated by the sudden loss of a young life.
As the investigation unfolds, many Ghanaians are calling for a deeper look into the reckless handling of firearms and the legal consequences that must follow.
May her soul rest in peace.
