The Ghana Police Service has apprehended a man posing as a medical doctor in a shocking case of impersonation and fraud.
The suspect, identified as Fredrick Papa Kow-Assifuah, was arrested on Thursday, June 6, 2025, in an intelligence-led operation conducted by the Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) at Crispo City, Kasoa, in the Central Region.
Kow-Assifuah had been masquerading as a licensed medical practitioner, complete with a white lab coat and stethoscope, when police caught him red-handed while attempting to meet yet another victim he had contacted online under pretenses.
Medical Equipment Recovered
A search of the scene revealed several items intended to support his fraudulent identity, including:
Two (2) stethoscopes
Three (3) IV drips
Five (5) syringes
Two (2) sample bottles
One (1) roll of medical plaster
Six (6) vaccine bottles
A Ghanaian passport
Cash amounting to GH¢8,500.00
During initial interrogations, the suspect admitted to falsely claiming to be a doctor at United Brain Hospital in Mallam, Accra.
Investigations also uncovered that he had been targeting women online by initiating romantic relationships and promising them travel opportunities to Europe. Using this tactic, he was able to defraud several victims of large sums of money.
The suspect is currently in police custody and is assisting with further investigations. Authorities have confirmed that he will be arraigned before a court in the coming days.
The Ghana Police Service urges the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious individuals or activities, especially when it involves sensitive sectors such as health care and travel.
